From the airport
Phoenix Sky Harbor is 12 miles and about 23 minutes from Hideaway without traffic, via the 202 and Loop 101 or straight up 44th Street and Indian School Road; allow 35 to 40 minutes at rush hour. Rideshare and taxi are the simplest options for a group of four or fewer with luggage. Rental cars are collected at the consolidated Rental Car Center, reached by the free PHX Sky Train, which adds about 20 minutes to arrival. If you plan on Salt River Fields, TPC Scottsdale, north Scottsdale golf or a Sedona day, a car earns its keep; if the trip is Old Town, the pool and spring training at Scottsdale Stadium, skip it.
Parking at the home
Two assigned spaces under a carport directly behind the patio, with free street parking on Parkway Avenue for a third car. The carport keeps the car shaded, which matters from May through September, and lets you unload straight into the kitchen.
Walking
The community’s paths lead to Miller Road in about four minutes; from there, Indian School Road west into Old Town has continuous sidewalks and street lighting. The Entertainment District is 14 minutes, the Civic Center 18, Historic Old Town on Main Street 19, the Waterfront 20, Fashion Square 25. October through April, walking is the default. In summer, walk before 9 AM and after sunset and ride in between; the pavement radiates heat well past dark in July.
The free trolley
Scottsdale runs three fare-free trolley routes on weekdays, roughly every 20 minutes between about 5:45 AM and 7:45 PM. The Miller/Hayden route and the 68th Street/Camelback route both stop on Miller Road near Indian School and near Camelback, a five-minute walk from Hideaway; the Camelback route continues west to Scottsdale Fashion Square. The dedicated Old Town loop has been suspended since 2020, and none of the routes run on weekends or major holidays, so treat the trolley as a weekday convenience rather than a plan. Rideshare and taxis
Uber, Lyft and Waymo’s driverless cars all operate in Scottsdale. From the community entrance on Parkway Avenue, a ride to the Entertainment District takes about two minutes, to Fashion Square three, to Scottsdale Stadium three and to Salt River Fields about 14. On peak nights the Entertainment District closes streets to cars, so set your pickup a block outside the closure. Airport rides run in the 25 to 40 minute range depending on the hour.
Driving and freeways
Loop 101 is five minutes east on Indian School Road and connects to the 202 (Tempe, Mesa, the airport) and the 51 (north Phoenix). Camelback Road runs west to the Camelback Corridor and Arcadia, and Scottsdale Road runs north to Kierland and the Airpark in 17 to 20 minutes. Traffic is heaviest on weekday afternoons from 3:30 to 6:30 and on the 101 near the Phoenix Open and WestWorld exits during event weeks.
Bikes and scooters
The Arizona Canal path, 20 minutes on foot at the Waterfront, is the best flat ride in the city and connects to the Indian Bend Wash greenbelt for a car-free route to Chaparral Park. Rental bikes and e-bikes are available from shops in Old Town; ask GoodNight Stay for a current recommendation.

Do you need a car in Scottsdale?
Not for Old Town, the restaurants, the farmers market or Scottsdale Stadium, which are all walkable from Hideaway or a two-minute rideshare. You will want a car or rideshare for Salt River Fields, TPC Scottsdale, WestWorld, Camelback Mountain, north Scottsdale golf and the airport. Many guests rent a car for the days they leave Old Town and leave it in the carport the rest of the time.
What airport do you fly into for Scottsdale?
Phoenix Sky Harbor International (PHX), 23 minutes from Hideaway in normal traffic. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway (AZA) is a budget-carrier alternative about 35 minutes away. Scottsdale Airport (SDL), 20 minutes north, serves private aviation only.
