Pasta Brioni (4416 N Miller Rd, 8-minute walk) is the old-school, family-run Italian dinner that regulars have kept busy for decades; it is a two-block walk and the kind of place a group of eight can settle into. Next door, Wok ’N Roll (9-minute walk) covers sushi and Asian fusion for the night nobody wants to cook, and Boondocks Patio & Grill (9-minute walk) and Clancy’s Pub (9-minute walk) handle burgers, games and the neighborhood-bar evening. Zipps Sports Grill on Camelback (10-minute walk) is the sports bar for spring training afternoons.
The Entertainment District and Stetson Drive Walk 12 to 15 min Drive 2 to 3 min
Sweet Dee’s Bakeshop (7350 E Stetson Dr, 12-minute walk) does cakes, cinnamon rolls and coffee in a bright corner shop. Barrio Queen (7114 E Stetson Dr) is Mexico City street food and a long tequila list, good for a loud group dinner before the bars. El Hefe and Bottled Blonde on Saddlebag Trail and Indian Plaza are tacos and pizza by day and nightlife by night; go early if you actually want to eat. Diego Pops (4338 N Scottsdale Rd) is the more polished Mexican option, with Brussels-sprout nachos that have their own following.
Fifth Avenue and Craftsman Court Walk 17 min Drive 3 to 4 min
This is where Old Town’s chef-driven side lives. FnB (7125 E 5th Ave) is the celebrated, vegetable-forward room with an all-Arizona wine list; check hours before you walk over. Citizen Public House (7111 E 5th Ave) is the gastropub that made the original chopped salad famous, with a serious bar. The Herb Box (7051 E 5th Ave) is the reliable lunch and brunch, and Berdena’s next door is the coffee stop. On the same block, The Mission (3815 N Brown Ave) does modern Latin food in a candlelit room that is a regular for date nights.
Main Street and the Arts District Walk 19 to 24 min Drive 3 to 4 min
Virtù Honest Craft (3701 N Marshall Way) is Mediterranean cooking in a courtyard behind the Bespoke Inn and one of the most consistent kitchens in the city. Cafe Monarch (6939 E 1st Ave) is the special-occasion tasting-menu room, with a garden courtyard; book well ahead. Malee’s Thai Bistro (7131 E Main St) has been the Main Street Thai standby for years, and Craft 64 (6922 E Main St) is wood-fired pizza and Arizona beer for a casual night. For the ending, Sugar Bowl (4005 N Scottsdale Rd), the pink ice cream parlor that has been open since 1958, is the walk-home stop.
The Waterfront and Fashion Square Walk 20 to 25 min Drive 3 to 4 min
Along the canal, Olive & Ivy and Culinary Dropout (7135 E Camelback Rd) cover Mediterranean and gastropub with big patios, and Press Coffee roasts next door. Maple & Ash in the same complex is the glamorous steakhouse. Across Camelback at Scottsdale Fashion Square, Nobu and Ocean 44 (4748 N Goldwater Blvd) anchor the mall’s restaurant row, and Toca Madera (4736 N Goldwater Blvd) is modern Mexican with a scene. Mastro’s City Hall (6991 E Camelback Rd) is the classic Scottsdale steakhouse, and Grimaldi’s (4000 N Scottsdale Rd) is the coal-oven pizza for a family night.
Breakfast and brunch Walk 20 min or more Drive 3 to 5 min
The Breakfast Club (4400 N Scottsdale Rd) is the Old Town breakfast institution, with a wait on weekends that the coffee bar at home lets you skip until 10. Postino on Highland (4821 N Scottsdale Rd), a five-minute drive, is the bruschetta-and-wine brunch, and Los Sombreros (2534 N Scottsdale Rd) is the Mexican dinner locals send visitors to, five minutes south by car.
Cooking in
The kitchen at Hideaway was rebuilt in 2025 with a five-burner range, a full-size refrigerator and everything from a blender to wine glasses, and the patio has a gas grill. Sprouts on Miller Road is a nine-minute walk for produce and meat; Safeway, Trader Joe’s and AJ’s Fine Foods are four to seven minutes by car; and the Saturday farmers market at the Civic Center is a 14-minute walk from October through May.
